In 1980 John Winter, Chief Technical Officer, purchased Mid-Continent Instruments which employed 16 people at that time. Today, the company has over 160 employees at two branches. The Mid-Continent Instruments facility in Wichita, Kansas performs instrument repair, overhaul and exchanges and develops/manufactures new avionics products. Mid-Continent Instruments West in Van Nuys, California does repair, overhaul, exchange, and new instrument sales. Mid-Continent is the top rated shop on the West Coast. Together the locations offer the largest general aviation instrument overhaul/exchange program in the world. Specialties include gyro, altimeter, HSI and autopilot system overhauls.

John Winter holds a Masters of Electrical Engineering degree from Yale University and is the company Chief Engineer. John and the engineering department design and develop new products for OEM requirements and the general aviation aftermarket.

J. Todd Winter, President, joined Mid-Continent in 1981 at which time he immediately took charge of purchasing, sales, and customer service. The father and son team were able to propel the business into a successful future by emphasizing a strict company philosophy;
Quality - Service - Integrity.

Todd holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Southern Methodist University Cox School of Business. He is active in many community organizations, local charities, the United Way, and is an adult leader and strong supporter for the Boy Scouts of America. Todd serves as the chairman of the Aviation Advisory Committee for the Wichita area technical schools. He is an FAA certified private pilot and board member for the Aircraft Electronics Association (AEA), which is an international organization dedicated to promoting quality service and the advancement of avionics technology and support.

The company repairs, overhauls, exchanges, and manufactures aircraft instruments for the general aviation industry. Mid-Continent instruments are in all airplanes built by Cessna aircraft Co., and in Raytheon's Beech line of Bonanzas, Barons, King Airs and 1900 Airliners. Instruments are sold to other manufacturers such as GARMIN International, Honeywell, Piper Aircraft Co., Maule Aircraft Co., and Robinson Helicopter Co.

The company has a very high employee retention rate. Most employees have been with the company for over 10 years. Technicians and staff are expertly trained and are very conscientious in their work.
